Report Card: Memphis Grizlies vs. Minnesota Timberwolves

Grizzlies Offense

The Memphis Grizzlies started out the game on a high note. They hit their first two three point shots of the game, and led by as many as nine in the first quarter. Although the Grizzlies led 25-20 after one quarter, the team had four turnovers in the period.

The Grizzlies' lead quickly evaporated in the second quarter after Memphis started off 2-of-14 from the floor. It was a rough quarter on offense and a nine point lead turned into an 11 point halftime deficit.

Memphis came out and scored 55 points in the second half. The team finished 9-of-19 from three point land, and scored over 100 points. Unfortunately that wasn't enough to secure a Grizzlies win.

Grizzlies Defense

The Grizzlies defense showed up in the first quarter in yesterday's game against the Timberwolves. Memphis allowed only 20 points in the opening frame, but allowed several fast break points and free throws.

The second quarter ended up being the downfall for Memphis on defense, as they allowed Minnesota to score 37 points. The Timberwolves outscored Memphis by 16 points in the second quarter, and ended up converting 20-of-22 free throws in the first half.

The Grizzlies allowed 21 fast break points to the Timberwolves which is 10 points above their season average. Shabazz Muhammad and Ricky Rubio combined for 21 free throws on the night.

All around it was a rough night on the defensive end for Memphis. They ended up giving Minnesota 33 free throw opportunities, 21 fast break points, and they shot 50 percent from the floor.

Grade: D+
