Memphis Grizzlies forward Matt Barnes was suspended for the past two games (vs. Miami, at Utah) for beating up New York Knicks head coach Derek Fisher. Barnes returns tonight as the Grizzlies continue their West Coast road trip against the Portland Trail Blazers at 9:00PM CT.
This is good news for the Grizzlies as Barnes provides some energetic consistency at both ends of the floor. He'll have his off nights, but he's also settled in with the Memphis offense well enough now to put up 15+ points if the playing time is there. Coming off suspension with fresh legs bodes well for Matt getting into the mix against a team he's very familiar with.
It's not unusual for Barnes to put up double-doubles; he's the Grizzlies 3rd leading rebounder behind Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph. Additionally, Barnes' three-point shooting has dramatically improved over the past month, going from sub-30% in November to over 36% in December.
