Game Summary

The Grizzlies lost to the Knicks tonight 111-104 in the Knicks season opener. The Knicks started hot and were able to put off multiple Grizzlies rallies to hold on for the win.

The Knicks made 11 of their first 15 shots to lead 32-19 at the end of the first quarter, and it seemed that the Grizzlies couldn’t find the basket. The Grizzlies kept scrapping though, taking what was at once a 43-25 deficit and closing it to 57-49 at halftime. The Knicks then used a huge third quarter run to string up a 16 point lead midway through the third, but again the Grizzlies chipped it to 5 by the end of the quarter.

The forth quarter was a nip and tuck affair. The Grizzlies played hack-a-Noah and used some pressure defense to close the gap and late in the 4th trailed only by a bucket 87-85. Unfortunately, the Knicks parlayed a Porzingis three and Derrick Rose drive into a 12-0 run to put the game out of reach.

Grizzlies player of the game

Marc Gasol had 20 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists. He didn’t have a good night from the field (5-15) but he converted all 9 of his attempts from the line.

Play of the night

Sorry y’all but this was vintage D-Rose.

Extra Points:

According to reports, the Knicks posted pictures of Zach Randolph (back from his Knicks tenure) on the Grizzlies visitor’s locker room door before the game... Speaking of Z-Bo, he passed Rudy Gay for third all time in Grizzlies history in games played (479). Mike Conley heads this list and Marc Gasol is 2nd.... Chandler Parsons, Brandan Wright, and Tony Allen were all unavailable for the game..... Coach Fizdale’s minutes restriction for the Grizzlies next game will now likely slide over to Marc Gasol....

The Grizzlies go home to play the Wizards on Sunday for their first back-to-back of the season. The Knicks will head to Detroit to face the Knicks on Tuesday, the first of a 3 games in 4 nights set.

Until next time Grizz fans, keep grinding.
