What To Watch For

Coaching Adjustments: The first game of the season was also the first game for both Tom Thibodeau and David Fizdale in their new roles. Now that both have a couple of games under their belt – not to mention two very recent matchups to draw from – this one will be an early chance to see how both coaches adjust.

Early Energy: Let’s hope we see an opening quarter more like Memphis’ last one against Washington, and less like the one we saw on opening night: The Wolves jumped out to a 20-3 lead which meant Memphis was playing from behind right to the very end. It was a similar story in New York on Saturday night.

Marc “Johnny Cash” Gasol: I don’t know about you, but I keep waiting to see if Marc’s three-point éclat to start the season is a fluke, or some kind of collective delusion by all of us. Let’s put the over/under at three triples from the big guy.

Cage the KAT: Karl Anthony-Towns went off in the first game: 31 points, 9 rebounds, and a block. (In fact, every Minnesota starter was +33 or above - yeesh!) Let’s see if film study leads to better defense on the rookie.

Prediction

I think the tables will be turned: Memphis will take the early lead on this one, especially since Ricky Rubio is out with an elbow injury, but Minnesota will keep it close in the second half. Another clutch performance down the stretch by Conley and Gasol secures it for Memphis: 100-90.
