MEMPHIS — The Memphis Grizzlies roster is riddled with injuries, especially at the point guard position.
With Mike Conley expected to miss 6-8 weeks due to an injury in his back, the Grizzlies need some depth at point guard while Conley works his way back.
According to Sam Amico — who is the founder and senior writer of AmicoHoops.net and the insider for the Cleveland Cavaliers TV at FOX Sports Ohio — Memphis is expected to sign free agent point Toney Douglas.
As stated in the Amico’s tweet above, Douglas spent time with the Cavaliers during the off-season and pre-season, but he was released prior to the beginning of the regular season.
It would not be surprising if Memphis signs the veteran point guard to a deal through a medical hardship waiver. Andrew Harrison has stepped up in the past couple games, but Memphis needs an experienced player to backup the rookie out of Kentucky. Wade Baldwin IV isn’t the answer and needs to spend more time in the NBA Developmental League — although the rookie out of Vanderbilt has shown a lot of promise during his short time in the D-League.
