Report Card: Memphis Grizzlies vs. Phoenix Suns

New, comments

Grading out the individual performances in last night's clusterf-- *ahem*, let's say trainwreck of a loss to the hapless Suns.

Well, that sucked.

Let's relive it and wallow in our collective self-pity.

Conley

Mike Conley: 30 min, 19 p, 8 a, 1 r, 1 s, -1

Mike didn't play particularly poorly, but some blame for a loss this bad rests on his shoulders. You just shouldn't lose to teams this bad. Regardless of scheduling strain, injuries notwithstanding, good teams don't lose these games. Your best player should be able to pull these out.

Hairston

D

P.J. Hairston: 24 min, 4 p, 2 r, 1 b, -9

A steep, harsh return to Earth for the Poor Man's Dion Waiters. Hairston doesn't offer much at all in absence of his shooting, and when they aren't falling...

Barnes

B-

Matt Barnes: 37 min, 16 p, 6 r, 1 a, 1 s, +2

Actually not a terrible game from Barnes, who found his stroke after a scoreless effort against the Lakers on Friday night. We might start to see more of Barnes at small ball 4 with the front court so banged up, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Randolph

C

Zach Randolph: 28 min, 19 p, 4 r, 1 a, -5

While he did lead the Grizzlies in scoring, that's little consolation for a pretty ho-hum effort from Z-Bo. Four rebounds is a laughably small output on the glass for him, and the Suns inexperienced big men looked way too comfortable. That's where Zach should put bully ball into effect, but it didn't happen last night.

Wright

Brandan Wright: 15 min, 6 p, 4 r, 3 s, -2

Stephenson

Lance Stephenson: 27 min, 12 p, 4 r, 3 a, -2

The important thing here is that Born Ready is playing hard. That's a big part of what was missing in Charlotte and LA for him, so as long as we're getting effort that's a good thing. I suspect he'll improve as he gets further integrated.

Or maybe not. Hell, who knows. Please be good, Lance.

Carter

C-

Vince Carter: 23 min, 5 p, 2 r, 2 s, 1 b, +1

There's the old man that we knew so well, I knew he was still in there. Maybe playing against old foe Kobe gave him some extra motivation to dig deep that just wasn't there last night. On the plus side, Carter looks healthier than he ever has over his two years as a Grizzly. *knocks vigorously on nearest available piece of wood*

Chalmers

B+

Mario Chalmers: 21 min, 15 p, 1 r, 1 a, 3 s, 1 b, -3

A lone bright spot in a field of darkness. Did a good job attacking the rim and drawing fouls, going 11-12 from the line.

Woe is Memphis. All is lost.

Andersen

C-

Chris Andersen: 20 min, 4 p, 8 r, -9

While Birdman wasn't necessarily terrible in his time on the court last night, he shouldn't be playing that many minutes. If Wright is out for any extended period of time, Andersen is going to get exposed. Could be a big problem.

Get used to JyMchal, because we're going to be seeing a lot more of him.

WHAT HAPPENED DAVE?! I know this is the back end of a West Coast back-to-back and you lost your only remaining functional center, but still... this is a really bad loss.
