Report Card: Memphis Grizzlies vs. Utah Jazz

Grading out the individual performances in last night's HUGE 94-88 win over the Jazz.

The Grizzlies overcame a putrid 1st quarter and a faulty sound system to gut out a massive win over a Western Conference playoff contender. They're now 7-2 since Marc Gasol went down and a near lock (*knocks vigorously on the nearest available piece of wood*) to make the post-season for the 6th straight year.

Conley

C-

Mike Conley: 28 min, 12 p, 4 a, 2 r, -7

Oy. Mikey, what happened? Right after his superstar effort against the Kings, Captain Clutch didn't live up to his name. He wasn't outright terrible, remaining predictably poised under pressure in the 4th, but his shot just wasn't falling. Just have to hope that this poor effort wasn't health-related.

Hairston

D

P.J. Hairston: 17 min, 2 p, 3 r, 1 s, -25

The silver lining? If Hairston keeps laying turds like this effort, we might actually be able to re-sign him for the shekels we can offer him.

Barnes

D+

Matt Barnes: 24 min, 5 p, 1b, -19

Thank goodness for the bench last night because the starters were pretty turrible. Barnes had the same problem as Conley in that he was just pulling the trigger and missing. And uncharacteristically for Barnes, he let Gordon Hayward have his way for the most part.

Randolph

(Z) B+ (o)

Zach Randolph: 35 min, 25 p, 8 r, 1 a, -12

I reiterate: give the rock to the hand.

Andersen

C+

Chris Andersen: 27 min, 6 p, 10 r, 1 s, 1 b, -4

Another big minute night for Andersen and another respectable effort. Hopefully he isn't just hanging on by a thread. Will be interesting to see if he continues to get this many minutes or if a combination of Z-Bo, JaMychal, and Hollins/Martin start eating into them, because I don't think this can keep up.

Chalmers

A

Mario Chalmers: 30 min, 11 p, 6 r, 5 a, 5 s, 2 b, +32
Chalmers was great last night. Looked awesome closing the game out and was making plays on offense and defense all night. Love him and Conley on the court together, no matter who's running the offense.
Stephenson

B

Lance Stephenson: 25 min, 16 p, 5 r, 1 a, +15

I will say this much for Lance: it is HIGHLY entertaining to watch him play basketball when he's trying. I mean that in the best and worst of senses.

Carter

C+

Vince Carter: 21 min, 9 p, 4 r, 2 a, 1 s, +26

That point differential, though =O

JaGreen

B

JaMychal Green: 20 min, 6 p, 3 r, 1 a, +7

GOODNESS GRACIOUS YOUNG MAN.

Hollins

WHY

Ryan Hollins: 11 min, 2 p, 1 r, 1 b, +14

DAVE. STOP TEXTING HOLLINS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT. STOP IT. YOU'RE LEADING HIM ON.

Martin

Inc.

Jarell Martin: 3 min, 0 p, +3

Not enough time to get a sense of how comfortable he was. He should be getting those Hollins minutes.

Gasol

RIP

Marc Gasol:

Head Coach Dave Joerger:

Gotta give props where they're due: CDJ has coached his ass off since Marc went down and the trades were made. Smart lineups, timeout choices, minute management outside of Hollins... he's been great.

FedEx Forum Sound System:

On the bright side, kudos to the Grindhouse Crowd for stepping up in the void of relative silence and to the Grizz Girls for their... er, a capella performance?
