The Phoenix Suns are up at #13 overall, and they have several picks to play with in the GBB Community NBA Mock draft. Let's see who Mock GM Kyle Whittington has focused in on- the Suns have made their selection.
With the 13th pick in the 2016 GBB Community NBA Mock Draft, the Phoenix Suns select..
Skal Labissiere, Forward/Center, University of Kentucky
A former top high school recruit with hellacious potential is off the board. Here is what Kyle had to say about the pick-
Phoenix has three first rounders in this mock draft and a massive hole at PF. Skal is an enigmatic big man out of Kentucky who was once thought to be one of the top prospects coming into this year. He is 6'11.5" with a 7'2 wing span who has very fluid motions for a big. He can run the floor, has soft hands, and runs the pick-and-roll very well. He has a great shooting form, and can be a good pick and pop big. With a little practice, he might be able to extend his range to the 3pt line.
Like Bender, Skal needs to get bulkier to hang with some of the other bigs. He had a very forgettable year at Kentucky which led to many wondering if he should even come out in the draft, or stay longer to develop. He has issues on defense because he jumps on pump fakes and gets lost in rotation. This probably comes from his newness to the game of basketball.
With this draft class being called a lesser draft, and the fact that Phoenix has 3 1st round picks this draft there is no reason why they shouldn't swing for the fences with this pick. Skal's draft status may have lowered after his freshman year, but he has a very high upside and believes that he might become one of the best prospects from this draft. Now Phoenix has 2 PFs that have high upside, and if they develop them correctly, could have two gems in this draft.
The future is bright in Phoenix perhaps now that both Bender and Skal are in the fold in that front court. Next, at #14 overall, the Memphis Grizzlies are on the clock.
