With the 18th pick in the 2016 GBB Community NBA Mock Draft, the Detroit Pistons select...
Dejounte Murray, Guard, University of Washington
A young man who is screaming up draft boards of late, Dejounte Murray brings a lot of skills to the table that would be intriguing to Detroit at #18. For one, he isn't Steve Blake, who was one of the Pistons' back-up point guards last season and has seen better days. But even for a team with Spencer Dinwiddie in the fold, this pick makes sense. More and more draft sites like NBADraft.net have him as a top-10 talent in this draft, so securing him at 18 overall is a bargain that can lead to potential trades down the road. He has size at 6'5" and a frame that should be able to fill out as his career beings.
Also, the kid can play basketball rather well. The 20-years old when the season starts Murray is quick off the dribble and can play/defend both guard positions; he is rather good at generating turnovers in on-ball situations. That versatility will be valuable to Stan Van Gundy and company, as Murray's game develops alongside Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Stanley Johnson on the perimeter. He also could develop in to quite the pick and roll (Andre Drummond)/pick and pop (Marcus Morris) player thanks to his quick foot work.
As the draft grinds along, the Pistons and other teams will surely be looking for the best talent available, hoping to hit an out-of-the-lottery home run in the draft. What kinds of hits will New Orleans and Indiana be looking to make tomorrow?
