Malik Beasley, Guard, Florida State

Drafting a guard with the "break in case DeRozan bails" mentality became the goal for this second pick so Malik Beasley will get the call.

DeMar DeRozan will likely become an unrestricted free agent after the 2016-2017 season and if he exits the building the Raptors are going to need an efficient shooter who can produce. Malik Beasley will potentially bring that to the table. The Seminole freshman averaged 15.6 points per game and clocks in at an offensive rating of 117.5. Beasley does not only employ solid mechanics outside but he also plays aggressively in the paint, creating scoring opportunities for himself at the rim and at the line. The young guard is not limited with his shot selection either. His catch-and-shoot works as well for him as a pull-up jumper. He is an athletic and versatile shooter.

His youth does work against since he lacks in finding his own shot and making smart ball handling decisions. However, if groomed under a top tier guard like DeRozan there is no doubt that Beasley's athleticism and natural ability will see him develop. Even if DeRozan stays, an effectively developed Beasley could provide Toronto with a valuable back-up or even a trade asset. NBA teams are always going to need an energetic and efficient scorer.
