Nearly every Memphis fan knows that the Grizzlies lack quality depth at the small forward position. Jeff Green was supposed to be the answer after the team acquired him in January of 2014. We all know how that worked out.
I have spent the past few years watching Batum play. My father lived in Portland, and every time I went to visit, we went to a Trail Blazers game. Batum was a fan favorite in The Rose City, before being traded away for Gerald Henderson in summer of 2015.
Batum is a great defender and solid three point shooter. He has the ability to play any guard position, but can also be moved into a stretch four. Batum touts a career .360 shooting percentage from behind the three point arc. His 15.69 PER in 70 games this past season was solid.
If the Grizzlies can re-sign Conley, their second target should be Nicolas Batum. It's a stretch to think that he would come to Memphis, because he has expressed interest in staying with Charlotte.
The Grizzlies are in desperate need of another wing. Batum fits the bill and could propel the Grizzlies to the next level. The Memphis Grizzlies desperately need an upgrade at small forward. Signing Nicolas Batum could solve their problems. Free agency will be fun starting on July 1st.
