The Denver Nuggets, who took guard Jamal Murray of Kentucky with the sixth overall pick that they acquired through a trade with the New Orleans Pelicans, are again on the clock at #7 overall. Their selection has been submitted...
With the seventh pick in the 2016 Grizzly Bear Blues Community NBA Mock Draft, the Denver Nuggets select...
Domantas Sabonis, Forward/Center, Gonzaga University
One perimeter player, and now one big man, are heading to Denver. Here is what Mock GM GBB reader mopizzle11 had to say about the Sabonis selection-
Looking up and down this roster, I'm not sure there are any glaring holes that can be addressed in the draft. That either means taking the best player available, or taking a guy that will add a new wrinkle to the team. I think it would be wise to go with the latter of the two strategies here and reach back for Sabonis here. Now I don't think he has quite the athleticism that Faried does, but he has the same indomitable will to crash the boards and fight for every loose ball. Defenses will never have a chance to rest.
What he also has is a very high IQ for a big man, which is what I was looking for when I said I wanted to add a new wrinkle to the team. What Faried lacks as a roll man is the vision to make the next pass. He is almost always on the receiving end of assists, but as we are seeing with teams like the Warriors, is that a roll man with good passing vision can pick a defenses apart. Sabonis had shown in college that he delights in finding an open man. 2nd year big man Nikola Jokic has also shown that he knows how to play with his head up and find cutters, so between the two of them, they can punish teams for doubling in the post.
With another big man off the board, and Kris Dunn available for the Sacramento Kings, pick #8 seems all but inevitable...or is it? Check back later today to find out when the newest GBB Contributor Brandon C (aka ballfromgrace) makes the pick for the Kings.
