The Chandler Parsons pipe dream may actually become a reality.
The Memphis Grizzlies have emerged as one of two main suitors for the services of the 6'9" Point Forward with an offensively versatile game and worrisome injury history. Parsons is choosing between Memphis and the Portland Trail Blazers, according to multiple reports, and while of course the Parsons/Portland meetings "went well" by all accounts, at the moment it feels like Memphis may have the momentum.
Why? Two main reasons. One, Dallas has once again shot themselves in the foot. They bypassed Parsons for several reasons (hopes of other free agents, health concerns, etc.) and have, for another year, struck out on a major target in Hassan Whiteside, who will be staying with the Miami Heat.
The other? This.
League sources say Mike Conley and Chandler Parsons have had multiple conversations about playing together in... https://t.co/TrkevqEc01— Tim MacMahon (@espn_macmahon) July 1, 2016
Dallas is believed to be Memphis' main competition for Mike Conley. Dallas just struck out on Hassan Whiteside and is not getting Chandler Parsons back. The Grizzlies are the only team who can offer Mike Conley a five-year contract, and by all accounts as long as Memphis does just that Mike is staying with the Grizzlies. Mike Conley is certainly not going to play in Portland with Damian Lillard and C.J. McCollum already making up one of the league's best backcourts.
Can you connect the dots there? Parsons to Memphis is as realistic as it has ever been.
