Memphis Grizzlies fans everywhere are surely breathing a sigh of relief upon hearing this news...according to Marc Stein of ESPN and other sources, Marc Gasol is officially out of the 2016 Olympics in Rio. The proud Spaniard surely did all he could to be physically ready to play, but he simply ran out of time. This means that Marc Gasol will now have missed out on international play the past two seasons- last season after signing his max contract, and this season due to his foot injury.
While reports have been promising on Gasol's recovery and he and the team have released videos and photos of the progress being made, concerns still are plentiful regarding the health of Gasol and his teammates Mike Conley and Chandler Parsons over the course of a full season. If all three can remain healthy and play to their capabilities, Memphis should be in the hunt for at least a first round bye in the playoffs. If any of them miss significant amounts of time, however, things could get ugly fast for a Memphis roster that will be less experienced, and will possibly have less depth, than in past seasons.
For now, Marc is focusing on being ready for when the Memphis Grizzlies need him in October. Here's to hoping he is ready to roll by then.
