Ryan Anderson and Eric Gordon were not supposed to be this good.
They were always capable, of course. The talent was there, and at times you saw flashes of their potential during their time in New Orleans. But it just never clicked due to injuries and other factors. When Houston signed them both, they were viewed with an overall "meh", with a side of "if healthy" hopes.
Those hopes, so far have been realized.
The Rockets are the surprise team of the season. James Harden is having an MVP-caliber season, but the team success of Houston is thanks in part to the reclamation projects that are Gordon and Anderson. They are launching threes at historic rates and are solidly the three seed in the West, outperforming expectations.
Sound familiar? The Memphis Grizzlies are usually the team lauded for their players getting second chances and taking advantage of them. This time around, it is the Rockets seeing the benefits of second chances.
