‘Twas the night before Grizzmas, when all through the Grindhouse
Not a Grizzly was stirring, not even a mouse;
The stockings were hung by the locker room with care,
in hopes that Marvin Bagley would soon be there.
The Grizzlies were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of wins danced in their heads;
And Gasol in his jersey, and Conley in his suit,
Had just settled in to watch last game’s crapshoot.
When out on the court there arose such a clatter,
Conley sprang from his chair to see what was the matter.
Away to the court he flew like a flash,
Stepped onto the floor and heard a loud smash.
The new jumbotron, with its brightness down low
Gave a luster to objects standing below,
When, what, to Conley’s wondering eyes would appear,
But 9 players playing, the best one was quite clear.
With a loud dunk and a jump shot not laging,
Conley knew in that moment it must be Marvin Bagley.
More rapid than eagles his precursors they came,
And he whistled and shouted and called them by name.
“Now, Baldwin! now, Rade! Now, Adams and Timma!
On, Wroten! On Franklin! On, Selby! On, Henry!
To the top of the Forum, to the top of the wall,
Now, go, go away, go away all!
Like draft picks before them, the players all knew
That when they reached the rafters, that they were through
So up to the rafters the precursors flew
With tears in their eyes and Marvin Bagley, too.
And then, in a twinkling, Conley heard on the roof,
The former players cashing in, while getting the boot.
As Conley thought in his head and was turning around,
Back down the rafters Bagley came without a sound.
He was dressed in all Grizz gear, from his head to his toe.
Ready to dominate, and defeat each foe.
With an array of skills and future so bright.
He looked like a player, who would fit in just right.
Conley’s eyes – they twinkled! His smile so wide.
For he knew this bad season, would be all worth it in time.
His mouth was drooling, while Bagley put on a show.
In that very moment, Conley was healthy and ready to go.
The rubber of the ball he held tight in his hands,
And in the background you could hear sounds of Grizz fans.
With a frown on his face, Conley already knew.
Bagley must return to Duke, with unfinished business left to do.
Bagley stood with a smile, without making a sound.
Then Conley realized, Duke would get upset in the first round.
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,
Soon Conley knew he had nothing to dread.
Bagley spoke not a word, as he went back to work,
And slammed down more dunks like it was clockwork.
Mike Conley was confident that the plan was on track,
That Bagley himself would soon be back.
Bagley hopped in his car and gave it a loud crank,
The Grizzlies continued their season-long tank.
But Conley heard Marvin Bagley exclaim, as he drove out of sight,
Merry Grizzmas to all, everything will soon be alright!
From everyone at GBB, we hope everyone has a Merry Christmas!
