The Oscars will take place on Sunday night, with all of Hollywood’s biggest names gathered to celebrate brilliant performances from the past year.
In honor of the occasion, I thought it’d be appropriate to hand out our own awards. So, without further ado, here’s our 2017 Memphis Grizzlies Academy Awards!
Best Actor, Lead Performance: Marc Gasol as Conor McGregor
It was going to be tough to top Gasol’s performance as the Man in Black, but Gasol managed to outdo himself. This is likely the only time a seven foot Spaniard will ever be seen playing the role of a 5’9” Irishman.

Best Supporting Actor: Zach Randolph
Zach may not be a starter anymore, but that doesn’t mean he can’t steal the show. In his new role, Z-Bo has been a force, anchoring the Grizzlies bench and providing veteran leadership to the second unit.

Best Drama: Grizzlies comeback win over Golden State
The Grizzlies are the only team in the NBA to beat the Super Team Warriors twice, and the second win came in impressive fashion as the Grizzlies came back from 24 points down.

Costume Design: Chandler Parsons’ low-cut shirt
C’mon, man.

Best Director: David Fizdale
Since his arrival in Memphis, David Fizdale has done everything in his power to foster a championship culture in Memphis. He’s brought the Grizzlies into the modern age, handled delicate situations (e.g. moving Zach to the bench) with aplomb, and made a concerted effort to get the most out of his veterans.

Actress in a Supporting Role: Grizz Granny that did the splits
I still cringe watching this. I can’t even get up from my desk without tweaking a hamstring.

Actress in a Leading Role: Alexis Morgan in “The Billboard”
I watched this video again just the other day because seeing the pure joy on JaMychal’s face is fantastic. But it’s also worth pointing out what a great job Alexis does. Grind City Media has done a terrific job during its inaugural season, and Alexis has been a big part of providing great content for Grizz fans. That deserves an Oscar IMO.

Film Editing: Between Two Grizz
The Grizzlies made sure to poke fun of Vince for turning 40, which is basically 100 in basketball player years.
.@mrvincecarter15 sits down for a VERY important interview with @mconley11.

Foreign Language Film: Memphis Grizzlies French Account
Bing does a pretty bang-up job of translating these, but the humor on the tweets still manages to shine through. French Grizzlies is one of the most underrated follows on Twitter.

Music: Original Song: Mike Conley “Living On a Prayer”
This is a very old video (just look at how short that hair is!) but I don’t really have any other videos of Grizzlies singing anything from this season so Mike continues to win the award, sort of like Pam and Roy winning the Dundee “Longest Engagement” on The Office.
