Two stories broke this evening that further cement the undeniable fact that the Grizzlies and the city of Memphis are, in fact, the best.
First, Mike Conley announced that he’ll be purchasing 500 tickets to game 3 and giving them away to fans in Memphis after practice on Wednesday. Grizzly players like Conley and Marc Gasol have done this in the past, and it’s always a good/classy move. Fans have new reasons to rally behind the team after game two (thanks, Coach Fizdale), but this ensures more folks in the stands while rewarding/thanking a fan base who has been pretty supportive this past season and beyond.

Secondly? Memphis-based Grizzlies sponsor ServiceMaster has pledged to cover the cost of league fees that David Fizdale may (will) face as a result of his now-viral press conference criticizing the officiating after game two. While this may happen in other cities, it feels undeniably Memphis to have a business step up to pay for a coach’s fine-worthy comments, no matter how right or wrong Fizdale may have been. Fizdale also has had GoFundMe pages started for him to help pay the fine - clearly there are plenty of folks who think he wasn’t too off base with his comments.

Perhaps this all will help the Grizzlies turn things around. Never forget that the Grizzlies were down 0-2 to the Clippers several years ago and stormed back to win 4 games in a row to take the series. The Spurs are much more mentally tough/well coached than the Clippers, but between that series and the comeback efforts of the Grizzlies in game two Monday night...
Maybe miracles are possible. Memphis is the best, after all.
