The Grizzlies handled a bad Knicks team last night with a strong push in the fourth quarter. The game was kept close by Memphis turnovers and strong rebounding by the young Knicks bench. Mike Conley led Grizzlies with 31 points and 6 assists.
The Knicks were short-handed with Carmelo Anthony and Kristaps Porzingis sitting out with injuries. Memphis has a full squad ready to play tonight, 12 of 13 players on the roster played minutes and all five starters scored in double figures. The Grizzlies officially locked up the 7th seed in the Western Conference playoffs after the win.
I talked with Joseph Flynn (@ChinaJoeFlynn) of Posting and Toasting, the New York Knicks SB Nation blog about the Knick fan’s perspective of Carmelo Anthony.
What are the Knicks fan base's feelings about Carmelo Anthony?
Flynn: If you're referring to Melo vs. Phil, most Knicks fans tend to side with Melo ever since Phil compared him to some dude who washed out of the CBA for smoking crack. Melo will always inspire contention among Knicks fans, but even among his supporters it feels like the time has come for him to move on to greener pastures.
What about Derrick Rose?
Flynn: Drive him out to the New Jersey Pine Barrens and leave him there.
How do players continue to motivate themselves when they are eliminated from the playoffs?
Flynn: Everybody in the organization has his own way of firing himself up: Melo speaks only in metaphor now, while owner James Dolan is fighting with fans yet again. Most of the rest of the roster is fighting for a spot in next year's rotation and/or their NBA livelihoods.
Now onto my View from the Enemy...
Before the game
Carmelo Anthony “injured” on second game of back-to-back.
Grizzlies showing full squad for this game, including Mike Conley who missed previous game against the OKC Thunder because an eye injury.
Well at least our bench will get some good minutes, we have nothing to lose.
Just get through this game injury free - both teams really.
Courtney Lee will be back in Memphis!
No Carmelo Anthony (left knee) or Kristaps Porzingis (lower back) tonight against Memphis, the Knicks say.— Ian Begley (@IanBegley) April 7, 2017
Knicks play like a 42.6-win team with Porzingis and no Rose/Anthony. They play like a 31.4-win team with all three. pic.twitter.com/6x4DjCzMcQ— NBA Math (@NBA_Math) April 7, 2017
Now that’s just mean...
When you turn on the Knicks game and Melo, KP & Rose are all out but dudes named Ndour & Plumlee were apparently on the team this whole time pic.twitter.com/AgwQHVuwN8— Knicks Memes (@KnicksMemes) April 8, 2017
During the game
Rough first quarter.
Better second quarter.
Wow. Great third quarter.
Let’s not talk about the fourth quarter.
Look! We do some things right!
After the game
On to the next one.
Wait, what was the over/under?
Congrats to the Grizz. They have a tough series against the Spurs coming up.
Only two more games guys, after this season we are going to need a few months off.
Maybe we can use this summer to heal injuries, but also just to get better. That’d be nice.
Next stop, MSG. At least we finish with two games at home.
