Tony Allen has been named on the NBA’s All-Defensive Second Team. The Grizzlies guard finished with 17 first team votes, 46 second team votes and 80 votes in total was enough for most on the second team unit. He is joined on the team by Danny Green, Anthony Davis, Andre Roberson and Giannis Antetokounmpo.
In his 13th year in the league and his seventh with the Grizzlies, Allen played 71 games, starting 66. He finished with 3.2 defensive rebounds a game, which was his best effort to date in his career. He also finished with 1.6 steals per game and 0.4 blocks.
Allen missed the playoffs with a calf strain, which may or may not have helped them in the conference payoffs as they were beaten by the San Antonio Spurs in six games before they were blown away by the Golden State Warriors.
It is Tony Allen’s sixth time to make the NBA All-Defensive team (three times on the first team and three times on the second team). Grizzlies fans will be keeping an eye on the free agency market as Allen will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1st.
