The Grizzlies played the 0-2 Utah Jazz today in Summer League. Utah has been mediocre so far this week with very few surprises. It should have been an easy win for the Grizzlies, but just like in the regular season, they struggled against an inferior team. Donovan Mitchell is the lone bright spot for the Jazz and it showed with his 8 steals in 34 mins of action.

The good.

Dillon Brooks finally gained the confidence to be able to play with other players in summer league. In the past two games, Brooks looked overwhelmed but today, he looked like he belonged on the court with everyone else. Brooks dropped in 24 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 steals. The best part about his shooting is that he shot 4 for 5 from three point line.

Wade Baldwin played well for the second time in a row, dropping in 15 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals. The biggest problem with Wade today is the same problem that he has every game, turnovers. Wade has gotten increasingly better as the games have gone on in Vegas, and shown improvement every game. In summer league, that is what you want to see from a guy that you hope to be in your rotation someday soon.

Wayne Selden starting off strong by dropping in a three as soon as the game started, but then cooled off pretty quickly. Selden looked like he had a late night and struggled a bit from the field, but he kept driving and ended up 17 points and 6 rebounds.

The Bad

Rade Zagorac was a +10 in the game for the Grizzlies, which is good, but he only had 3 points and 4 rebounds. Rade still looked lost out on the court, he could not stay in front of his man on defense, and got lost on his rotational defense as well. The lone bright spot for the Grizzlies is that he hit one wide open three, its not much, but that is what you want from him. Rade has a great looking shot, but he needs to continue to shoot the ball to gain confidence.

Deyonta Davis did not play well for the third straight game. Davis only had 5 rebounds and 4 points in the game against the Jazz. Davis will continue to have to try and be aggressive on the offensive side of the floor. The Grizzlies will need him to find a way for him to contribute consistently on the offensive end. He has yet to find how he fits into the offense, even in the summer league, which is a problem.

Coach Cyprien said that they want Davis to be a rim runner in the pick and roll after the game against the Kings, but Davis does not seem to commit to the roll after he sets the pick. The bright spot for Deyonta Davis? He has four blocks today, but we all knew that he was good at defense, so that should not come as a surprise to anyone.

The Surprise.

The only surprise today is that the Grizzlies were able to pick themselves up from the Las Vegas night life and play a basketball game.
