Grizzlies Roll over the Hawks 131-117

NBA: Atlanta Hawks at Memphis Grizzlies Justin Ford-USA TODAY Sports

1st Quarter

The Memphis Grizzlies started the game strong coming out of the gate playing good defense and actually rebounding the ball against the Atlanta Hawks. Marc Gasol, Mike Conley, and Garrett Temple all hit threes in the first three minutes. Chandler Parsons joined the fun by hitting a three the next trip down the court. Mike Conley looked great out on the floor, putting the ball in the right spots, going to coast to coast for transition buckets, it was the Mike Conley we all know and love which helped them out to an early 12 point lead.

Jaren Jackson Jr showed off his offensive skills late in the third quarter scoring off feed from both Marc Gasol and Mike Conley. The bench unit for the Grizzlies struggled heavily against a depleted roster of the Hawks, letting them get back into the game at the end of the first quarter. The Grizzlies let a seventeen point lead get back to only four at the start of the second quarter.

Mike Conley continued to find every one of his teammates on the offensive end, helping the Grizzlies maintain the lead. Garrett Temple and Chandler Parsons hit several more threes combining to go 6-6 through most the second quarter. The amount of threes the Grizzlies were sinking was the only thing keeping them in the games at times. Mike Conley was also leading the way with 8 assists, will most likely find himself on the end of a double double at the end of the night. Jaren Jackson Jr. showed off his defensive skills and just generally put himself into good positions allowing his teammates to find him for open shots.

Everything was going right for the Grizzlies including Garrett Temple finding a cutting Omri Casspi for a dunk leading to a ten point lead for the Grizzlies with just over two minutes to go into the half.

The Grizzlies started the third quarter looking a little flat until Mike Conley hit Temple for his ninth assist on a fast break and Chandler Parsons followed that up with a fast break of his own. One of the best moments of the night was Mike Conley getting into the lane, finding Marc Gasol, who then swings it to Chandler Parsons who knocks down a wide open three and the crowd at FedEx Forum erupts. That capped a scoring run for the Grizzlies that would put them up by twenty-five. Garrett Temple his scoring throughout the third quarter only missing one more shot and putting up twenty six points mid way through the quarter. Jaren Jackson continued playing really well in his home opener capping the third quarter with a massive offensive rebound and putback, putting the Grizzlies up twenty-four points.

They started the fourth quarter just as slow as the third quarter letting Hawks get into the paint pretty easily. The bench unit that included Marc Gasol let the Hawks score a few but were able to pretty quickly put the clamps on and continue to increase their lead. Dillon Brooks continued to have a rough night, searching for anything on both the defensive and offensive end, but it was just not his night even when he needed incredibly bad. Brooks finally got over the hump after slicing down the lane for a bucket and followed it up with a great assist to Jaren Jackson Jr. for a wide open three pointer.

It was an easy night for the Grizzlies, whether thats the Hawks being really bad or the shots falling for everyone tonight at home. Either way, it led to a Grizzlies win over the Hawks outscoring them 131-117.
