Report card: Memphis falls flat at Utah

Gasol caught fire but the young Grizzlies dropped one against the Jazz

NBA: Memphis Grizzlies at Utah Jazz Jeff Swinger-USA TODAY Sports

Marc Gasol led all scorers with 28 points against the Utah Jazz in a game decided in the fourth quarter. Memphis again used the young players during clutch time when the Jazz pulled away.

Now time for grades.

Marc Gasol: A+

28 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists in 23 minutes (+4)

Gasol was incredible last night. His perimeter shooting got going and kept the Grizzlies in the game. He shot 11 of 12 from the field and had a career-high 6 triples. He did not play in the fourth quarter.

MarShon Brooks: A

24 points in 18 minutes (+2)

In his second appearance with the Grizzlies, Brooks had another 20 plus point game. He looked for isolation plays most of the time and showed his ability to score the basket in and outside the paint. Great pickup by the Memphis front office so far.

Kobi Simmons: C+

6 points, 5 assists in 25 minutes (+6)

Simmons directed the team well. He had zero turnovers and made a few nice pick and roll plays with Gasol. I would have loved to see him play more in crunch time.

Dillon Brooks: C

10 points, 5 rebounds in 26 minutes (-4)

Brooks was off from the perimeter last night. He managed to finish a few plays around the rim though and provided the usual energy.

Wayne Selden: C

8 points in 23 minutes (-6)

Selden’s performances after the All-Star break have offered some hope for the future. He did not have a particularly consistent game last night but he connected two triples and showed again he belongs.

Ben McLemore: C-

8 points in 23 minutes (-10)

McLemore shows some flashes here and there but he never lives up to his potential. His defense left again a lot to be desired.

Jarell Martin: D+

6 points in 29 minutes (-2)

Martin played again the small forward position. He finished a few plays around the rim but did not contribute a lot. It is in these games where he should bring more to the table.

Marquis Teague: D-

1 point, 5 assists in 25 minutes (-17)

Teague had 5 assists but he was a liability for the Grizzlies last night. He committed costly turnovers and missed two key free throws.

JaMychal Green: F

2 points, 6 rebounds in 20 minutes (-9)

Despite having a terrific second half of the season, Green had an off night. He only shot the ball three times and struggled against the Jazz big men.
