Really? At 5?

The 2018 GBB Community Mock NBA Draft is under way! The draft is continuing through our Twitter account @sbngrizzlies if you want to follow it there as it develops. We are recapping picks and trades here at GBB from now until draft week, and we have arrived at #5 overall with the Dallas Mavericks and their mock GM Jack Noonan (@jnoonan1307).

First, a review of where we are in the draft. Check out this link for the articles connected to all these selections/moves.

  1. Phoenix Suns- Deandre Ayton, center, University of Arizona
  2. Boston Celtics via Sacramento Kings- Luka Doncic, guard/forward, Real Madrid
  3. Atlanta Hawks- Jaren Jackson Jr., forward/center, Michigan State University
  4. Philadelphia 76ers via Memphis- Michael Porter Jr., forward, University of Missouri.

With the 5th pick in the 2018 GBB Community Mock NBA Draft, the Dallas Mavericks select Marvin Bagley III, forward, Duke University.

This was probably a super fast and easy choice for the Mavericks, who had to be thrilled to see Bagley there at 5. Here is Jack’s take on the pick-

This pick will fit will in perfectly with their current roster rebuild. Bagley is a no-brainer at this pick as he was higher than #5 on many boards. He will give them an elite big man to start building their frontcourt. Bagley will pair nicely with Dennis Smith Jr. running the offense as these two young stars become the focal point of the franchise. If Bagley can continue his success into the league, the Mavericks may be able to rise out of the cellar of the NBA.

Dallas was arguably the biggest loser on Draft Lottery night, but at least in this mock they appear to be big winners early on.

Up next? The Orlando Magic, and the number six pick.
