The summer Grizzlies moved on to the semifinals of the Las Vegas Summer League after defeating the Philadelphia 76ers summer league squad 82-73 late last night.

The Grizzlies were lead by summer league standout Brandon Goodwin, who dropped 21 points and 3 rebounds. Hours after signing his rookie contract, Jevon Carter had another solid game chipping in a solid 11 points and 4 assists. Two-Way player Kobi Simmons added 15 points and 7 assists in a balanced effort from the summer Grizz.

Jaren Jackson Jr. continues to impress with his play this summer. JJJ scored 14 points to go with 8 rebounds and 4 blocks. JJJ is showing the maturity that you typically don’t see from an 18 year old. He doesn’t force things on the offensive end (only 7 shot attempts) and he’s vocal on the defensive end, really anchoring a stout Grizzlies defensive unit. Last night’s game wasn’t JJJ’s most dominant game, but it showed what he will be able to contribute to the Grizzlies right away.

Former Memphis Tigers Markel Crawford and DJ Stephens had quiet games, both scoring 6 points. Crawford, along with the previously mentioned Goodwin, seem to be making strides toward earning Memphis Hustle contracts going into next season. Stephens, whose rights are already owned by the Hustle, is hoping to earn a spot on the Grizzlies roster after missing out two off-seasons ago. With his solid play, and current 2-way player Myke Henry out with a back injury, Stephens is getting support of Grizz faithful to replace Myke as the Grizzlies other 2-way player.

Deyonta Davis continues to underwhelm in his 3rd summer league. He’s rebounded well, grabbing 10 boards, but his 6 points leave a lot to be desired. DD continues to look lost on both the offensive and defensive end, while Ivan Rabb has already seemingly been shut down for the summer league.

The Grizzlies will face off against the Portland Trail Blazers tonight at 9:30 PM on ESPN2 with a spot in the summer league championship game on the line. The Trail Blazers are lead by a familiar face in the Grizzlies organization, Wade Baldwin IV. The former first round pick by the Grizzlies is averaging nearly 15 points and 9 assists per game leading the 2nd seed Trail Blazers into their semifinal matchup against the Grizzlies. Baldwin, who will be playing with a chip on his shoulder, facing off against Jevon Carter will be an interesting matchup.

Another key matchup in tonight’s game is Jaren Jackson Jr. vs Zach Collins and Caleb Swanigan. The Trail Blazers hope that one, or both, of their 2017 first round draft picks shows the potential to be key role players in their lineup next season.

The 27th seed Grizzlies will look to give the Trail Blazers their first loss in Vegas en route to a spot in the Vegas Championship game tonight at 9:30 PM on ESPN2.
