Dillon Brooks hurt his leg late in the game Saturday night in San Antonio. Jevon Carter lost a shoe at one point and had to go through a couple possessions with only one shoe.
That was a good microcosm of what happened against the Spurs.
The Grizzlies lost the game 108-88, but closed the Spurs lead to just nine points with 5:07 left to go on a Jevon Carter three.
Derrick White had a huge game for San Antonio score 19 points on 9-of-9 shooting. LaMarcus Aldridge had a great night as well with 18 points and seven assists. San Antonio dominate the paint, outscoring the Grizzlies 42-30.
To the grades!
Dillon Brooks - 15 points. 3-of-5 from deep, 13 points in the fourth, +1
Dillon was a big reason for the Grizzlies cutting into the Spurs’ lead in the final frame, scoring 13 of his 15. He was one of only two Grizzlies to finish positive in plus/minus, the second of which I’ll get to in just a minute. This was Dillon’s fifth game of double figure scoring this season, and his third in his last five. The only negative thing I can say was he was practically non-existent the rest of the game.
Jaren Jackson Jr. - 15 points 7 rebounds, 4 assists, +1
Jaren did a great job of staying on the game Saturday, committing only three fouls in 33:41, and all three fouls coming in the third quarter. Jackson didn’t get any blocks on the night, but forced four steals, a career high. Jaren keeps consistently finding ways to impact the game and make the most of his time on the floor.
Marc Gasol - 6 points, 6 assists, 11 rebounds
Marc had a decent first half, with two rebounds and four assists of his stat line coming in that half. Nursing a hamstring issue, Gasol only played 8:20 in the second half, all of which came in the third quarter. It was another case of a tale of two halves for Marc. Another positive, Marc was only -2 Saturday, better than all starters except for Jaren.
JaMychal Green - 8 points, 10 rebounds, 4 turnovers, -23
Green did not have the best night. He did almost have a double-double. JaMychal did also end up fouling out Saturday night, but that was the least of his troubles. In 29:07 on the floor, Green was an astonishing -23.
Also, there was this.

Green had issues with Aldridge all night.
- Mike Conley gets a C+ for being consistent. Mike didn’t have a game as good as the other night vs. Brooklyn, but it was an average, 21 point game for Mike. Nothing flashy, but not awful either.
- Justin Holiday gets a C- for having a slightly below average debut. I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt, he’s brand new to the team. So it probably will take him a few games to settle in with his new team. Two points in 20:37, 1-of-7 from the floor, not the best debut, but it’s a work-in-progress.
The Grizzlies will be back in action Monday night against the Anthony Davis and the Pelicans. Tip off is 7:00pm from the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans.
