The Memphis Grizzlies announced today, amongst a frenzy of Rookie Deal Extensions, that they have picked up the third year (2020-21) team options on the contracts of Jaren Jackson Jr. and Grayson Allen.

Jaren is the current face of the franchise alongside rookie Ja Morant. This move was a no brainer and needed no time for deliberation. The goal for this front office going forward should be to do whatever it takes to lock up JJJ for as long as possible.

Grayson is also going into his second season in the league, but his first with the Memphis Grizzlies after coming over from the Utah Jazz in the Mike Conley deal. Allen played well in the preseason, possibly well enough to earn a starting role next to Morant. Nonetheless, he did enough to impress the front office to go ahead and extend his contract through next season as well.

Both sophomore players will play a vital role for at least the next two seasons, but do not be surprised if Jaren Jackson is not offered an extension as early as next summer.
