The Hustle won a thrilling game in Oklahoma City last Saturday night against the Blue. After trailing by as much as 16, the Hustle came back to stun the Blue in the final seconds of the game thanks to Matt Mooney’s 2 free throws. It was a weird game for the Hustle, being the first time they’ve really trailed all season long. It was good to see Jason March and the team respond in the second half and come back and steal a win from the Blue.
Game 7 Breakdown
- Dusty Hannahs- 28 points, 4 assists, 3 steals
- Josh Jackson- 23 points, 5 rebounds, 5 steals
- Yuta Watanabe- 22 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 steals
- Jarrod Uthoff- 17 points, 9 rebounds, 4 steals
- Nino Johnson- 10 points, 11 rebounds
In a matchup of the last two unbeaten teams in the league, the Hustle prevailed after outscoring the Red Claws by 21 points in the second half. The game was closer than the final score suggests, with the Hustle finishing the game on a 35-23 run behind Dusty Hannahs’ season high. You can check out my full recap here.
48.2%: The Hustle currently rank second in the G-League, shooting 48.2% from the field. The Hustle are also in the top 10 in field goal attempts per game, so they are truly shooting the ball efficiently, and not just taking a minimal number of shots. The consistently efficient shooting is a key component in the Hustle winning 6 of their 7 games by double digits.
119: Jarrod Uthoff currently leads the Hustle in total net +/- with a +119. Uthoff has been overshadowed by Josh Jackson a majority of the season, but he’s had a winning impact on the team all season long. Whether it’s scoring the ball or making plays on the defensive end, Uthoff is a key reason the Hustle are winning.
MVP of the Week - Josh Jackson
Josh Jackson continued his dominance of the G-League averaging 24 points, 8.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 3 steals and 1.5 per game last week. Jackson has been the best player on the floor in all 7 games this season, and deserves to be called up. Jackson has been a key factor in the Hustle’s early season success as he’s simply much better than everyone else.
Week 3 Grade - A+
Another perfect week for Jason March. The Hustle were able to battle through adversity and come from behind and win a gritty game on the road and then they pulled away to blow out one of the G-League’s best. Jason March has this team clicking on all cylinders, and they figure to be good even after Josh Jackson’s eventual call-up.
Week 4 Preview
Oklahoma City Blue (3-3) @ Memphis Hustle 11/30 7 PM CT
Memphis Hustle @ Northern Arizona Suns (2-4) 12/03 7:30 PM CT
Game 8 Preview: The Hustle will welcome the OKC Blue to Southaven for a Saturday night matchup as the Blue look to get revenge on last week's loss to the Hustle. The Hustle will need to do a better job of containing DeVaughn Akoon-Purcell (22 points) and Myke Henry (19 points, 12 rebounds) who both went off last Saturday against the Hustle.
Game 9 Preview: The Hustle will then hit the road for a 4-game road trip, starting things off in Prescott Valley, Arizona to face off against the Northern Arizona Suns. The Suns are led by former Auburn sharpshooter Jared Harper, but besides him they don’t have any other intimidating offensive threats. The Hustle should be able to handle the Suns with ease if they can contain Harper. Traveling isn’t an easy thing in the G-League, but playing a vastly inferior opponent should help the Hustle get comfortable early.
