The Hustle, a week after coming back to defeat the Blue in OKC in the final seconds, decided to just blow them out in Southaven for their first Hustle & Hounds game of the season. With Yuta Watanabe a late scratch due to being called up to the Grizzlies, the Hustle responded with another well balanced scoring effort with all 10 available players scoring. The Blue, without some of their top players like Myke Henry, were led by Luguentz Dort (26 points) and Sedrick Barefield (25 points). The Hustle led the entire game, and even led by 30 at one point late in the 4th quarter. It was another dominant effort for the Hustle as they moved to 8-0 going into a 4 game road trip.
Game 9 Breakdown
- Josh Jackson- 26 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 blocks
- Jarrod Uthoff- 21 points, 14 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 steals, 3 blocks
- Matt Mooney- 20 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals
- Dusty Hannahs- 15 points, 4 assists
The Hustle continued their hot streak to start the season moving to 9-0 after defeating the Northern Arizona Suns on Tuesday night. It was another great night for Josh Jackson, who scored 14 4th quarter points to help the Hustle hold onto their slim lead. Jarrod Uthoff continued his quiet dominance as well with another 20-10 double-double. Matt Mooney had one of his better shooting games of the season, dropping on 20 points. The Suns aren’t a great team, but any road game in the G-League is tough and it was good to see the Hustle kick off their 4 game road trip with a win.
114.5: The Hustle have averaged 114.5 points in their 4 road games so far this season while averaging nearly 10 more points per game at home. With the Hustle wrapping up a 4 game road trip, it’ll be interesting if their offense can keep it up.
1: The Hustle are the only team in the G-League ranked in the top 5 in offensive rating and defensive rating. The Hustle rank first in offensive rating, with a rating of 112.8 while ranking 3rd in defensive rating with a rating of 99.9. This shows how efficient the Hustle have been on both sides of the ball, whereas most teams typically excel on just one side of the court.
MVP of the Week - Josh Jackson
Josh Jackson continued his dominance for the Hustle last week averaging 26 points, 10 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.5 blocks. Jackson continues to do everything asked of him for the Hustle and has been a key factor in their continued success. Jackson shot the ball efficiently last week and was the most consistent scorer for the team.
Week 4 Grade - A
The Hustle had another excellent week, continuing their undefeated streak to start the season. Jason March did an excellent job navigating minutes for bench players who haven’t played much this season and letting them be positive impacts on the game with Yuta Watanabe called up to the Grizzlies. No complaints so far for Jason March and the team.
Week 5 Preview
Memphis Hustle @ Northern Arizona Suns (2-7) 12/5 7:30 PM CT
Memphis Hustle @ South Bay Lakers (4-5) 12/7 7:00 PM CT
Memphis Hustle @ Agua Caliente Clippers (4-5) 12/9 1 PM CT
Sioux Falls Skyforce (5-6) @ Memphis Hustle 12/11 7:00 PM CT
Game 10 Preview: After defeating the Suns on Tuesday, the Hustle will stay in Prescott Valley to face off against the Suns again tonight, with the chance to jump out to 10-0. The Hustle will need to do a better job of slowing down Jared Harper (31 points) and Ahmed Hill (27 points) who both went off Tuesday night.
Game 11 Preview: The Hustle will continue their road trip by heading out to California where they’ll face off against the South Bay Lakers. The Hustle won the first matchup in Southaven 137-120 but Gary Payton II and David Stockton will look to get revenge on their home court. The Lakers have been solid all season and have scoring depth, but their defense is lacking. This game will likely be a shootout, and it will be interesting to see if the traveling fatigue ends up hurting the Hustle here.
Game 12 Preview: The Hustle will wrap up their road trip by staying in California to face off against the Agua Caliente Clippers. James Palmer Jr. and Johnathan Motley lead the Clippers offensive charge as they don’t have many other high scoring threats. The Hustle will need to remain focused and not look ahead to returning home to Southaven for their matchup against the Clippers. The Hustle have the superior talent, but could be worn out from the long road trip.
Game 13 Preview: The Hustle will return home to face off against former Memphis Tiger Jeremiah Martin and the Sioux Falls Skyforce. Jeremiah Martin, and Dusty Hannahs’ former teammate Daryl Macon lead an efficient Skyforce offense into Southaven. The Landers Center figures to be fairly packed with the return of Jeremiah Martin and the game itself should be pretty interesting as the Hustle look to extend their lead in the division.
