Jaren Jackson Jr. was named to the 2018-2019 All-Rookie First Team, the NBA announced earlier today.
JJJ had the 4th most points in votes among the rookies with 159 total points. The Rookie of the Year finalists lead the first team with both Luka Doncic and Trae Young getting the maximum 200 points, while Deandre Ayton got 195. Marvin Bagley III rounds out the first team with 156 total points.
The second team consists of: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (138 points), Collin Sexton (132 points), Landry Shamet (85 points), Mitchell Robinson (77 points) and Kevin Huerter (45 points). In the voting, first place votes counted as 2 points, while second place votes counted as 1 point.
Jaren Jackson Jr. averaged 13.8 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game for the Grizzlies after being selected 4th overall in the 2018 NBA Draft. JJJ’s rookie campaign ended prematurely after just 58 games due to an injured quad. Jaren being selected to the first team despite playing in just 58 games is a minor surprise but a deserving honor for the big man out of Michigan State.
Look for Jaren to continue his growth next season alongside whomever the Grizzlies select #2 overall in the 2019 NBA Draft.
