The Memphis Grizzlies Public Relations Department has announced the 2019-20 Preseason Schedule. Here’s how it looks:
- Maccabi Haifa at 2 p.m. CT October 6
- New Zealand Breakers at 7 p.m. on October 8
- Hornets at 7 p.m. on October 14.
- @ Thunder at 7 p.m. on October 16
- @ Spurs at 7:30 p.m. on October 18
The first game of note, to Memphis fans in particular, is the match up against the New Zealand Breakers. The Breakers roster former Memphis Tigers target RJ Hampton, who decided to skip playing college for a year and play overseas before declaring for the NBA Draft.
The only home match up against an NBA opponent will be against Miles Bridges and the Kemba-less Charlotte Hornets, an early favorite for a top lottery pick next season. Expect new point guard Terry Rozier to play sparingly while getting a heavy dose of the Martin twins, PJ Washington and Malik Monk.
The Grizzlies will then head to OKC to face a new look Thunder team, who we know by now has moved on from Russell Westbrook and Paul George. Arch nemesis Chris Paul now leads the way, but resting the recently oft injured vet may be their best option.
It will be fun to watch Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Darius Bazley and Hamidou Diallo fly up and down the court representing the future of the franchise.
Finally Memphis will end the preseason in San Antonio on October 18. The Spurs boast a loaded roster — as always— and did well in the draft. The additions of Luka Samanic, Keldon Johnson and Quinndary Weatherspoon alongside Lonnie Walker IV and Derrick White will be fun to watch. This will also be the final tune up for the vets so expect Rudy Gay, Lamarcus Aldridge and DeMar DeRozan to get some run as well.
With the release of the preseason schedule, we are one step closer to the start of the NBA season!
