The Hustle dropped a close game against their main competition at the top of the Western Conference standings, falling to the Stars in Salt Lake City. The Hustle led a majority of the first half before allowing the Stars to go on a run to take the lead into halftime. The Hustle regained the lead for short stints in the second half, but the Stars pulled away late for the 6 point win. The Hustle have to feel pretty good about the performance, though, as they kept it close without the efforts of Jarrod Uthoff and John Konchar who were both out due to injuries.

The Hustle blew out the Santa Cruz Warriors in dominating fashion on Monday night. The Hustle led by 43 at halftime and at one point led by 48 points before sending in the bench unit. It was a dominating game from the Hustle that also allowed the rotation players to get some rest with Grizzlies assignees Marko Guduric and Bruno Caboclo absorbing minutes as well as sitting at the end of the blowout. You can check out my full recap here.
12.5: Matt Mooney was a steady hand for the Hustle. He averaged 12.5 points per game to go along with 3.3 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 1.9 steals. Mooney was a solid scorer and 3-point threat out of college, but he really improved and impressed as a facilitator and defender for the Hustle. The Hustle will miss having Mooney in the rotation, but he definitely deserved his call up.
43: The Hustle set a franchise high halftime lead when they led the Warriors at the half on Monday night. It was also a season high 79 points in a half for the Hustle as they completely dominated the Warriors.
MVP of the Week - Dusty Hannahs
Dusty Buckets put on another solid scoring performance this past week dropping 53 points in two games. His other numbers don’t necessarily jump out at you, but Dusty has improved immensely as a passer, rebounder and defender. As discussed previously this season, Dusty has also emerged as an all-around scorer instead of just a 3-point threat. It’s a shame he didn’t get a two-way deal prior to the 1/15 deadline, but I’ll be shocked if he doesn’t land a 10-day contract later this season.
Week 10 Grade - B
A 1-1 week is good enough for a B this week. The loss was competitive and to a great team while the win was over a decent team in dominating fashion. Jason March continues to have this team prepared for the rapid fire changes that happen in the G-League with injuries, call ups, and everything in between. It will be interesting to see how March responds this week on the homestand after losing both Mooney and Hollis-Jefferson
Week 11 Preview
South Bay Lakers (10-15) @ Memphis Hustle 01/17 7 PM CT
Delaware Blue Coats (13-9) @ Memphis Hustle 01/22 7 PM CT
Game 25 Preview: The Hustle will look to take a 2-1 season series lead against the South Bay Lakers after both teams won the home matchups earlier this season. The Lakers come to Southaven on a 6 game losing streak and have lost Gary Payton II, David Stockton and Kostas Antetokounmpo among others to injuries or call ups. The Lakers are still talented though, with Talen Horton-Tucker partnered with Reggie Hearn and Andre Ingram who are the top 2 all time in career 3-point makes in the G-League. Still, the Hustle should be able to take care of business at home even if the Lakers get some needed reinforcements.
Game 26 Preview: The Hustle will then host the Delaware Blue Coats in one of their few home games against an Eastern Conference opponent. The 76ers affiliate are led by former Grizzly Xavier Munford and Marial Shayok. They also may have the extra benefit of having Norvel Pelle as he is about out of days with the 76ers on his two-way deal that has yet to be converted. It will also be former Hustle player Doral Moore’s homecoming to Southaven after being the teams starting center for most of last season. The Blue Coats have decent depth but are middle of the pack in a majority of categories across the board. It won’t be easy, but the Hustle should be able to take care of things against the Blue Coats depending on who they have available.
