After falling to the Raptors 905 last night, the Hustle had a quick turnaround as they had their first of a back-to-back matchup against the Austin Spurs tonight. It was Grizzlies Takeover Night as the first 1,000 fans in attendance got a Vancouver Grizzlies themed retro Hustle shirt. The fans who made the trip down to Southaven also got to witness the debut of the Hustle’s auction-able retro jerseys as well.

The first quarter was an exciting high-scoring affair with both offenses getting into a flow early. Spurs assignee Keldon Johnson came out gunning, scoring 10 points in the opening quarter while the Hustle had a more balanced attack with 8 players in the scoring column. After 6 lead changes in the quarter, the Hustle went on a late run in the quarter to get a 10 point lead that the Spurs quickly cut back down to 5 by the time the quarter was over.

The Spurs were able to cut into the Hustle lead and tie the game back up early in the 2nd quarter thanks to some hot shooting from beyond the arc. The Hustle then jumped out to a 10 point lead midway through the quarter, thanks in large part to some nice hustle plays by Venky Jois and Shaq Buchanan. Another late quarter run by the Spurs had the Hustle clinging to a 3 point lead going into the half.

The Hustle came out of the halftime break firing on all cylinders getting whatever they wanted offensively as they were able to build their lead back to double digits early in the quarter. The Hustle were able to build their lead to as high as 16 points midway through the quarter before the pesky Spurs cut it back down to single digits late in the quarter. The Hustle were able to go on a small run in the final minute to finish the quarter up 95-85.

The Hustle again opened the quarter on fire offensively, jumping back out to a 16 point lead early in the quarter. The Spurs wouldn’t quite go away, cutting the Hustle lead to 10 points a few times in the quarter but the Hustle had a response for every mini-run the Spurs threw at them and wound up with a big win over the Spurs. The victory extended the Hustle’s lead in the conference to 5.5 games over the Spurs, who are currently the 3rd seed behind the Hustle and Salt Lake City Stars.
