I filled in for Brandon Abraham, GBB’s Memphis Hustle correspondent (AKA Mr. Hustle), to cover tonight’s Hustle game. So, it’s kind of like a G-League assignment. Or something like that...

The Memphis Hustle faced off against the Austin Spurs for the 2nd time in 3 days, looking to tally another win against them. The game started with a tribute to Kobe Bryant, as the two teams exchanged a shot-clock violation and an 8-second violation.

The Hustle stared out lackadaisical, only scoring 4 points in the first 5 12 minutes. They managed to close the 1st quarter with 20 points behind the scoring efforts of Dusty Hannahs.

The second half was more encouraging for the Hustle. Though they didn’t take the lead, they managed to find a pace and a rhythm on both ends of the court. Ahmad Caver played with a lot of energy, making things happen in transition as a playmaker, scorer, and defender. Hannahs also continued his strong scoring outing, finishing the half with 14 points on 5-11 shooting.

The Hustle closed the half down 51-45.

The Hustle generated some momentum for a strong third quarter thanks to a massive scoring explosion by Shaq Buchanan, as he tallied 16 points in the period. Hannahs continued his hot shooting night with two more 3’s in the quarter. The Hustle rode a 36-point quarter to tie the game at 81 going into the final stanza.

The fourth quarter belonged to Marquis Teague, who scored 8 points in the first 6 minutes of the quarter, doing a fantastic job of slicing the Spurs’ defense. My heart dropped when Dusty Hannahs splashed a transition 3 in front of Zach Kleiman and Tayshaun Prince.

Behind the play of Teague and Jarrod Uthoff, the Hustle managed to keep the fourth close. The Hustle won the game off a pick-and-roll between Marquis Teague and Rahlir Hollis-Jefferson with six seconds remaining.

The Hustle win a big one in Southaven 115-114.
