Monday morning it was reported that Memphis Grizzlies rookie Point Guard Ja Morant was considering accepting an invite to participate in the Slam Dunk at All-Star Weekend.

Morant would be the first Memphis Grizzly to participate in the Slam Dunk contest since Rudy Gay 2007-2008 season.

The rookie point guard has been nothing less than thrilling through his first three months in the NBA. Morant has been named Rookie of the Month for the months of November and December, and seems to have taken the league by storm with highlights nightly.

Morant is currently leading all rookies in points per game (17.6), assists per game (6.6), and efficiency (17.7). Ja is indeed the ‘Ja-dropper” that many expected to be, one of the next stars in NBA, and is somehow still exceeding expectations.

For Grizzlies fans, some of the highlights Morant makes on a nightly basis are becoming normal to us. The hesitations on rim runs that put big men in concrete, the ability to hang in the air leading to a pass to his teammates - it is becoming almost routine.

While Morant is still just considering the invitation, he has time to decide. Last season the participants weren’t announced until the beginning of February. Morant has the opportunity to take his game, name, and Grizzlies organization to the next level, but still has several things to consider in this decision factoring in fatigue, injury, etc.
