Authors Note: After missing last week for personal reasons, The Hustle Report is back this week with a shortened version to recap the past two weeks events, and look ahead to next week.

Week 8 & 9 Results

Memphis Hustle (15-3) 91 @ Sioux Falls Skyforce 80

Agua Caliente Clippers 110 @ Memphis Hustle 107 (15-4)

Rio Grande Valley Vipers 113 @ Memphis Hustle 128 (16-4)

Memphis Hustle (17-4) 130 @ Iowa Wolves 127

Memphis Hustle (17-5) 136 @ Iowa Wolves 145

Game 18 Breakdown

Key Stats

  • Jarrod Uthoff- 24 points, 10 rebounds, 2 steals
  • Josh Jackson- 13 points, 4 assists
  • Marquis Teague- 13 points
  • Matt Mooney- 11 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 steals
  • John Konchar- 10 points, 17 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 blocks

The Hustle responded after a dud of a G-League showcase with a low-scoring win over the Sioux Falls Skyforce. The 91 points is the lowest the Hustle have scored all season, and is the only time they have scored under 100 on the year. That said, it was great to see the defense step up when the offense wasn’t clicking and slow down a high-scoring Skyforce attack.

Game 19 Breakdown

Key Stats

  • Matt Mooney- 28 points, 3 assists
  • Jarrod Uthoff- 23 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists
  • Josh Jackson- 18 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists, 3 steals
  • Dusty Hannahs- 11 points, 4 rebounds
  • John Konchar- 10 points, 8 rebounds

The Hustle lost their first home game of the season against the Agua Caliente Clippers. After leading by as many as 15, the Hustle blew a double digit lead in the 4th quarter which resulted in the loss. Matt Mooney had arguably his best game of the season, but it was all for naught as the Hustle fell apart late in the game.

Game 20 Breakdown

Key Stats

  • Jarrod Uthoff- 30 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals
  • Dusty Hannahs- 30 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists
  • Josh Jackson- 20 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists
  • Matt Mooney- 12 points, 4 assists

The Hustle got back in the win column with a dominant win over the Vipers. The Hustle were led by the high scoring trio of Uthoff, Hannahs and Jackson and the team shot 16-35 from beyond the arc in the blowout win. In the second game of back-to-back home matinees, it was good to see the Hustle respond so quickly and dominantly from the loss the day prior.

Game 21 Breakdown

Key Stats

  • Yuta Watanabe- 28 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 4 blocks, 2 steals
  • Josh Jackson- 26 points, 12 rebounds, 6 assists
  • Jarrod Uthoff- 23 points, 9 rebounds, 2 blocks
  • Marquis Teague- 14 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists

The Hustle won the first matchup in their trip to Iowa thanks in large part to their high scoring offense. The Hustle had all 9 players get in the scoring column and held off a late Wolves rally to secure the win. The Hustle couldn’t quite run away from the Wolves, but it was good experience for the team to keep the game just out of reach from the Wolves.

Game 22 Breakdown

Key Stats

  • Josh Jackson- 35 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists
  • Dusty Hannahs- 30 points
  • Matt Mooney- 15 points, 4 assists
  • John Konchar- 12 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists

The Hustle fell to the Wolves in the second game of their Iowa trip behind an ugly defensive effort. Scoring 136 points typically leads to wins but the Hustle defense was brutally awful giving up 145 to the Wolves who had 7 players score in double figures.

Standings Snapshot

MVP of the Week - Josh Jackson

Josh Jackson and Jarrod Uthoff were the two most consistent players over the past two weeks, with Josh barely outperforming Uthoff. In 5 games, Jackson averaged 22.4 points, 6.6 rebounds, 5 assists while shooting over 44% from the field. His talent still exceeds a majority of other G-League players and when he’s locked in and engaged he’s incredibly tough to stop.

Week 8 & 9 Grade - C

A 3-2 is decent as the Hustle rang in the new year, but the two losses were especially painful. Losing a game you led for the majority of the 4th quarter is painful, as is giving up nearly 150 points. The Hustle were bound to cool off after a hot start to the season, but some of the mistakes they are making are odd for this time of year.

Week 10 Preview

Agua Caliente Clippers v Santa Cruz Warriors Photo by David Becker/NBAE via Getty Images

Memphis Hustle @ Salt Lake City Stars 01/10 8 PM CT

Santa Cruz Warriors @ Memphis Hustle 01/13 7 PM CT

Game 23 Preview: The Hustle will travel to Utah to face off against the Stars team that won the G-League showcase a few weeks ago. The Stars currently sit atop the Western Conference standings thanks in large part to an all-around scoring effort led by Justin Wright-Foreman and Jarrell Brantley. The Stars did just lose William Howard who was signed to a two-way deal by the Houston Rockets, so that should make them more beatable. Still, the Stars figure to be a tough road game for the Hustle.

Game 24 Preview: The Hustle will then return home to face off against former Grizzlies players Jeremy Pargo, Deyonta Davis and Andrew Harrison as they meet up with the Santa Cruz Warriors. The Warriors have most recently been led by rookie Jordan Poole who is on assignment from the big league Warriors. Poole is averaging 26 points for the Warriors and will be a tough matchup for the Hustle guards.
