The Hustle pulled out a close win over the OKC Blue in their morning game in Southaven. With a 10:30 AM tip for their Financial Literacy game, they hosted over 4,000 kids from across the mid-south area. The Hustle jumped out to an early 24-point lead despite losing Dusty Hannahs to an ankle injury early in the 2nd quarter. The Blue were persistent and made a strong comeback effort in the 4th quarter, but couldn’t quite regain the lead on the Hustle. It was a big time game from Shaq Buchanan and Ahmad Caver, who picked up the scoring load in Hannahs’ absence. Marquis Teague continued to be clutch for the Hustle as he hit a handful of clutch shots down the stretch. The win snapped a two-game losing streak for the Hustle and helped the shorthanded team get some confidence.
Game 34 Breakdown
- Shaq Buchanan- 36 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals
- Ahmad Caver- 21 points, 5 rebounds, 8 assists
- Jarrod Uthoff- 21 points, 17 rebounds
- Marquis Teague- 21 points, 2 assists
The west coast continues to be a tough place for the Hustle to play, as they fell to the South Bay Lakers on Saturday night. The Hustle were even more short handed than normal with Dusty Hannahs out with an ankle injury and ultimately fell short to a talented Lakers team led by Pierre Jackson and Talen Horton-Tucker. The Hustle got a solid effort out of the 4 guys mentioned above, but just couldn’t get enough from the 4 other active players on the roster.
Game 35 Breakdown
- Jarrod Uthoff- 27 points, 13 rebounds, 3 assists
- John Konchar- 17 points, 13 rebounds, 6 assists, 4 steals
- Ahmad Caver- 17 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists

The Hustle went into the All-Star break with a big win over the Agua Caliente Clippers. The Hustle were dominant defensively in the second half, holding the Clippers to just 37 points. The Hustle had just enough offensive firepower to put the Clippers away late. The Hustle were able to get Dusty Hannahs back after he missed just one game due to an ankle injury. The Hustle also got back John Konchar, who was assigned to the Hustle after spending the greater part of a week with the Grizzlies. The win was big for the Hustle as it secured at least a share of first place in the Western Conference heading into the All-Star Break.
4: The Hustle had the most players selected from any team in the G League to the mid-season All-NBA G-League teams and the 4 made up one-third of the Western Conference honors. With 2 of the 4 players being true G-League players, it is a testament to how strong the team truly is.
47.1%: Dusty Hannahs is once again near the top of the G-League in 3-point percentage. Hannahs is currently shooting 47.1% from beyond the arc on an insane 7.2 attempts per game. Dusty only trails Andrew Rowsey who is shooting 50% on the season, but in nearly half the games Dusty has played. 46% of Dusty’s attempts come from behind the arc and he’s still able to knock them down at an insanely high clip. Hannahs has been a top 5 shooter in the G-League the past 3 seasons shooting over 40% from beyond the arc.
MVP of the Week - Shaq Buchanan
Shaq Buchanan has filled in nicely for the Hustle over the last few weeks. He first started getting more minutes after Matt Mooney was signed to a two-way deal with the Cavs, and the minutes only increased with the call ups of Josh Jackson, John Konchar, and Yuta Watanabe. Buchanan was particularly huge this week for the Hustle averaging 26.3 points, 7.3 rebounds and 3 assists per game on the week. He’s taken on a much larger scoring role when he’s needed and has a knack for having a couple of highlight plays per game.
Week 14 Grade - B
Entering the break after going 2-1 on the week is good for the Hustle. The Hustle were able to keep it steady after having their roster depleted two weeks ago and are still one of the best teams in the G-League. The loss against a “meh” Lakers team in El Segundo hurts, but the Hustle made up for it with two morning wins on the week.
Week 15 Preview
Sioux Falls Skyforce (17-18) @ Memphis Hustle 2/19 7 PM CT
Game 36 Preview: The Hustle return home after the All-Star break to face off against the Sioux Falls Skyforce. The Skyforce have struggled offensively most of the season as they don’t have any player averaging over 18 points per game. Daryl Macon, Dusty Hannahs’ former Hog teammate, can put up points in bunches but outside of him the Skyforce rely on Mychal Murder and 36 year old Jarrett Jack to provide a scoring punch. With some more depth in at least one of the two-way players available, along with much needed time off, the Hustle should be able to take care of business at home against the Skyforce.
