So much fun!

Ja Morant is electrifying.

Each game, he’s bound to do the unthinkable. He’ll rise up and challenge the league’s giants at the rim. He’ll trash-talk anybody, regardless of their tenure in the league. On any play, he could either freeze a defender with a killer crossover or fake, find his teammate with a smooth dime, or finish at the rim with sheer force.

Or almost finish.

Coming into the league, many people remembered his jaw-dropping dunks from Murray State.

Exhibit C:

As Morant continues to mature both physically and as a NBA player, he’ll add to his collection of jaw-dropping (ja-dropping?) jams. Those almost-dunks will turn into complete annihilations at the rim. It’s going to be scary.

To celebrate of 1 year of Ja Morant being a Memphis Grizzly, some members of the GBB Staff reminiscence on the rookie’s best finishes — or near-finishes — at the rim in the past yaer.

Honorable mentions: Ja alley oop against Cleveland, Alley Oop Dunk against the Clippers, Reverse Dunk past DeMar DeRozan.

Brendan Smart, GBB Senior Staff Writer and Grizz Gaming Correspondent: The Ja Morant dunk on Aaron Baynes in Phoenix is the hands down biggest dunk of the season. It seemed like Ja had three or four close encounters with posters, and for that dunk to happen, was special. Can the assist be an “almost” assist? If so, the pass that Morant threw behind his back, in mid air to Jaren Jackson Jr., is the winner in my book. Jaren missed the left handed layup, but that was the iconic pass this season.

Shawn Coleman, GBB Senior Staff Writer: My favorite Ja dunk was the one where he posterized Aron Baynes in Phoenix. While his near misses are fun, that converted and emphatic basket put the NBA on notice that Ja is always a threat in the lane, but not just in terms of finishing. It proves how special Ja is on the move and how lethal he could make the Grizzlies offense become.

Brandon Abraham, GBB Senior Staff Writer and Memphis Hustle Correspondent: Ja’s almost dunk on Kevin Love will probably be the runaway winner here, but I’m gonna go against the grain and say that Ja’s dunk over teammate Jaren Jackson Jr. is my favorite dunk so far. Dunking over your own teammate is crazy enough, throw in the fact it was Mike Conley’s first game back inside FedExForum and how big that game was made the dunk the cherry on top.

McCarty Maxwell, GBB Staff Writer: The Morant attempt over Kevin Love is still an amazing if captured at the right moment, and you know an attempted dunk is special when the victim tweets about it afterward. It was jaw dropping live, but just as special to watch over again.

Parker Fleming, GBB Associate Editor: Ja Morant was already having an excellent game against the Los Angeles Lakers in February, probably the best of his career. He finished with 27 points and 14 assists. The main highlight came when he nearly baptized Anthony Davis. The Grizzlies were already serving the Lakers the business, and Ja went for the unthinkable: dunking on Anthony Davis. If you search “Anthony Davis dunked on” on Youtube, this is the only accurate result you get. It never happens. This near “Dunk of the Year” highlight just highlights the audacity of Ja Morant.
