To start off game one, Grizz Gaming struggled to get going. Pushing tempo, and trying to match Nets GC point for point isn’t how Memphis plays. After getting down by seven in the first half, the Grizz would take the lead for a few seconds in the second quarter. One bright spot for Memphis was Vandi. The Grizz Gaming Point Guard would drop 22 first half points, but wouldn’t get much help as they would trail the Nets 33-28 at the half of game one.
The second half, it felt like Memphis was climbing up a mountain that they couldn’t overcome. They were playing up-tempo and allowing Brooklyn to get a ton of second chance points. While Vandi had no problem scoring, the Grizz as a whole struggled to keep up. With two minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, the Grizz would go on a 10-0 run that would push game one into overtime.
In overtime, the Grizz simply ran out of gas, and would fall to the Nets by a score of 80-72. Memphis would need to force a game three to win the series.
In game two, Grizz Gaming would start much stronger than they did in game one. Getting scoring from the entire roster, the squad’s lead pushed out to as much as six in the first quarter. The Grizz would end the first quarter leading 17-14 over NetsGC.
The second quarter, if you’re a Grizz Gaming fan, had to worry you. Getting outscored by NetsGC in the second quarter 16-10, Memphis realized they were in for a fight. “We are going to win like this,” Grizz Gaming Center Goofy came over the microphone telling his teammates. “We went into halftime of game one with only one three point make,” Goofy continued. “Vandi, we need to figure something out, they know you’re going to the rim, switch it up,” Goof communicated with his team at the half. “The shots will fall, I’m confident in it,” Vandi replied to Goofy. Memphis trailed 30-27 at the half, as it was gut check time for the Grizz.
In the second half, Grizz Gaming and Nets GC would come out with a back and fourth mentality. Fortunately for Memphis, AuthenticAfrican would help Memphis build a six point lead heading to the final frame as he went on a 7-0 run to close out the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter Vandi would take Memphis home with his attack on the rim then dishing to his open teammates from the lane after the defense collapsed on him. The Grizz would take game two by a score of 64-52, forcing a game three against Brooklyn.
I’ve said this again and again this season, but if my back is against the wall, I want “elimination Vandi” on my side. Vandi wouldn’t disappoint, and it started from the tip. ‘Vandini’ would drop 27 points in the first half, as Memphis would distance themselves from the Nets in the final minutes of the second quarter. Grizz Gaming would carry an 11 point lead into halftime.
In the second half, the Grizzlies would continue to push their lead, and a huge part of game three that went over shadowed was AuthenticAfrican’s defense on the high scoring Nets guard, Choc. Choc entered the fourth quarter with only eight points for the Nets, and Memphis holding a 64-46 lead.
Coming into the fourth quarter, Vandi, who originally had a career high of 47 points in a game, was just three points away from his career high and had six minutes to destroy that. Scoring nine fourth quarter points, Vandi would shatter his season high in scoring with 54 points, as the Grizz would collect their seventh win of the season a score of 90-69.
