NBA 2K

If you pre-order NBA 2K21, things could get confusing, and if you’re wondering why they are still releasing the game for current gen in the middle of the NBA 2K Playoffs, you’re not alone. I’m here to answer all of your questions, and go over what to expect in NBA 2K21 as it releases on PS4 and Xbox One Friday.

Pre-Order Options for 2K21:

The 22nd edition of the NBA 2K series will be released this Friday, and this is arguably the biggest edition to be released yet. A game, that many people play differently. The MyTeam series, MyCarrer story line, and playing head-to-head with people across the United States with your favorite NBA team, 2K has it all. You still have until Thursday to pre-order NBA 2K, and you don’t want to miss out on some rewarding options when you pre-order.

  • Damian Lillard, current gen cover, and Zion Williamson, next gen cover, standard edition - $60.00-70.00

If you are able to pre-order the standard edition of NBA 2K21, it honestly isn’t a bad route to go. When the game installs into your PS4 or Xbox One, you will recieve the following rewards from 2K for pre-ordering:

  1. 5,000 Virtual Currency
  2. 5,000 MyTeam Points
  3. 10 MyTeam Promo packs (one per week)
  4. 6 MyCareer Skill Boosts
  5. 5 pair MyCareer Shoe Collection
  6. Damian Lillard Digital Collection
  7. 3 MyCareer Gatorade Boosts
  • Kobe Bryant, Mamba Forever Edition - 100.00

The Mamba Forever edition would be the way to go, if you will be purchasing either the PS5 or the Series X Xbox towards the end of the year, as 2K is giving you a free copy for the next gen in this bundle. The Mamba Forever Edition will include a the following items:

  1. 100,000 Virtual Currency
  2. 10,000 MyTeam Points
  3. 10 MyTeam Tokens
  4. 60 MyCareer Skill Boosts
  5. 30 MyCareer Gatorade Boosts
  6. 40 MyTeam Promo Packs (10 at launch, then three per week)
  7. Sapphire Damian Lillard and Zion Williamson MyTeam cards
  8. MyPlayer Shoe Collection
  9. MyPlayer backpack
  10. Kobe Bryant Digital Collection

What about roster updates, and offseason transactions?

NBA 2K is in a unique position due to COVID-19 delaying the 2020 NBA season several months. Normally, the excitement around the new 2K dropping is playing with new rosters, and new guys on our favorite NBA teams, while fighting that our teams overalls should be higher. But that will have to wait until the offseason concludes, because 2K still has a plan.

With the game dropping on Friday, in the middle of the NBA Playoffs, 2K is expected to drop a major roster update following Free Agency, and the NBA Draft. Once those two things conclude, it’ll feel like you are playing two different games, due to the NBA offseason concluding when the next generation consoles drop.

So, 2K is making due, and throwing a free edition of 2K for next gen in the Mamba Forever pre-order pack, because they understand.

Why didn’t 2K21 delay their release date?

This is, and was, the biggest question surrounding game since late May when COVID-19 suspended the season. Knowing that the season, if resumed, would still be going on when the release date was set. 2K stuck to their guns, and stayed with their original release date focusing on new right stick animations that will translate into next gen for Point Guards, along with a new neighborhood theme called “the beach.”

With the price of next gen copies expected to rise, and the standard current gen game at 60.00, I would order the Mamba Forever edition that comes with that free next gen copy. Another positive is that your VC will push over into the next-gen console, so you can build your VC up over the three months and then have that built up to spend when the next gen copy releases.

This, without a doubt, is the biggest 2K to be released, not necessarily current gen, but for the next gen. Back when the current gen consoles dropped in 2014, 2K was a leader in pushing the boundaries graphics and game mode wise.

How will 2K handle next gen? We find out Friday.
