Today, the NBA announced the 1st and 2nd All-Rookie teams, and no mistakes were made. It’s a good day for the Memphis Grizzlies.
2019-20 NBA All-Rookie teams:— Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) September 15, 2020
First team: Ja Morant, Kendrick Nunn, Zion Williamson, Brandon Clarke, Eric Paschall
Second team: Coby White, Tyler Herro, Terence Davis II, PJ Washington, Rui Hachimura
Ja Morant and Brandon Clarke were definitely two of the best rookies in the entire NBA. The Rookie of the Year Morant averaged 17.8 points (1st among rookies) and 7.3 assists (1st among rookies), while leading the charge for the Grizzlies’ surprising season. Clarke averaged 12.1 points and 5.9 rebounds (4th among rookies), leading all rookies in Win Shares (5.0), Box Plus/Minus (3.1) — and placing 2nd in True Shooting Percentage (66.3%).
This honor puts them in strong company among the franchise history, as this is the first time the Grizzlies have had consecutive 1st-team All-Rookie players — last year with Jaren Jackson Jr. In addition, they join Pau Gasol and Shane Battier as the only players in franchise history to make 1st-team All-Rookie in the same season.
Ja Morant and Brandon Clarke were instrumental in the team’s successes this season, and it’s only going to get better. This is the beginning of something special.
