The Memphis Grizzlies took the court at FedExForum against the Boston Celtics riding a ten game losing streak against the C’s. With their four game home stand coming to an end, could the Grizzlies finish it out 3-1 and snap their losing streak against the Celtics?
The first quarter started off slowly for the Memphis Grizzlies as the Celtics got off on a 10-2 run. Fortunately for the Grizzlies, they’d weather the Celtics six first quarter three pointers from Boston. Despite the slow start, the Grizzlies offense would recover, as the Grizzlies would pull within six, and trail the Celtics 30-22 at the end of one quarter. Grayson Allen and Ja Morant led the Grizzlies with six points a piece.
A second quarter that featured the Grizzlies taking the lead for the first tim would turn into an offensive stand off between Boston and Memphis. The Grizzlies would outscore the Celtics 36-35 in the second quarter, and would cut the Celtics lead down to five at the half at FedExForum. Boston led Memphis 60-55 at the half.
What didn’t go right for the Memphis Grizzlies in that third quarter? Jonas Valanciunas Statue of Liberty dunked on Celtics bigs, and then ‘Jump with Ja’ returned as Morant threw down a nasty left handed alley-oop.
The Grizzlies outscored the Celtics 34-21 in that third quarter, and would take a 94-86 lead into the fourth quarter.
The Celtics didn’t go away despite the Grizzlies momentum throughout the fourth quarter. The Celtics tied the game up with seven seconds remaining in regulation, as the Grizzlies headed into a timeout to potentially win the game. A Ja Morant top of the key three-pointer didn’t fall to win the game for the Grizzlies, as Memphis headed to overtime against Boston with the score of 117-117.
The Grizzlies entered overtime with a mission to close this one out. Dillon Brooks played really well in overtime, and Morant did more than just shoot the ball. Getting offensive rebounds, and playing hard overall. The Grizzlies would close out their homestand 3-1 with a 132-126 win over the Celtics.
Ja Morant - 29 points, 9 assists, 5 rebounds, 12/25 FG
