The Grizzlies start out hot against one of If not the best defensive team in the NBA today in the anew York Knicks. The “ Drip N Slime” shot 54% for the first quarter with 10 assists & 3/5 from downtown. Grayson Allen and Dillon Brooks continue their hot starts for Memphis, as Brooks had 11 points in the first. Derrick Rose came in off the bench for the Knicks to keep them in the game with 9 points in what seemed like 30 seconds it took him to score it. Keep in mind Rose scored 22 for Detroit last year against the Grizzlies.

The sophomore period saw more of Dillon Brooks, and of course Derrick Rose. Grayson got his third foul in the second using his shoulder to score a bucket and got called for the offensive foul. Derrick Rose seemed to catch instant fire and was able to counter most people of the blows the Grizzlies delivered as he had 13 point shots on 6/11 shooting by the time he sat down for the half. Even Jonas Valanciunas nailed a three-point basket in the second quarter.

Desmond Bane turned the heat up to close out the half for Memphis as he had three triples made by halftime. The Grizzlies shot 8/14 for the half lead the Knicks 60-49.

The Knicks came out of half time looking to chip away at the Grizzlies double digit lead. That proved to be a tall task with the Knicks all star forward Julius Randle struggling mightily from the field. Jonas reached his usual double double half way through the third quarter. Ja Morant delivers a double-digit performance with 14 to be exact in the third quarter alone. Derrick Rose is the guy keeping hope alive for New York & helps the Knicks get the Grizzlies lead down to seven to finish the opening period of the second half. The Knicks bench is killing the Grizzlies bench by the end of the third quarter nearly doubling their performance 45-24.

Tyus Jones kept the good times rolling for Memphis to start the final period and managed to continuously make plays that kept the engine running for the starting unit to close out regulation. The Grizzlies managed to have every player who played tonight register an assist. Now if that ain’t a sign of selfless play and fully embracing ball movement I don’t know what to tell ya.

Despite it all the Knicks showed the heart of their coach & kept this a tight game down the closing stretch as the went on a 9-2 run by the time the game had just over three minutes remaining before Grayson was fouled & sent to the line. Allen then nailed both free throws in a game Memphis struggled to stay above 50% from the charity stripe. Thanks to RJ Barrett and missed opportunities by Memphis, the Knicks managed to keep chipping away & take this game into overtime.

OT starts with RJ Barrett making a layup. Dillon Brooks counters by nailing a three ball and shortly after the Knicks then take the league when Julius Randle responds with a made three ball. Those missed free throws are now haunting Memphis as they got too complacent and allowed the game to get out of hand. Most evident from their free throw shooting & turnovers. Long story short Memphis loses the game to the hands of the Maple Mamba virtually single handily as RJ Barrett nails shot after shot for 20 points to seal the deal in overtime.
