The battle for the Western Conference Play-In Tournament continued for the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday night as they took on the scorching hot Dallas Mavericks at FedExForum. The Grizzlies would be without Jonas Valanciunas and Jaren Jackson Jr. on Tuesday night. Could the Grizzlies steal one at home?
The first quarter would be a quarter of runs from both the Grizzlies and the Mavericks. It was a high-paced quarter saw the Mavericks lead by as much as seven. As Luka Doncic went to the bench, Grizzly killer Jalen Brunson came in and made an impact for Dallas. Brunson and Hardaway shot the ball well for Dallas from deep, but Ja Morant would rally his troops towards the end of the quarter.
Morant would lead the Grizzlies on an 11-2 run to close out the first quarter run to give the Grizzlies once again. The Mavericks were 25-0 when leading after one quarter, so since the Grizzlies led 28-27 after one, Memphis had a chance...
An up and down affair continued into the second quarter at FedExForum in Memphis between the Mavericks and Grizzlies. It felt really similar to the first quarter in terms of the timing of both teams’ runs.
The Mavericks made a run towards the middle of the second quarter as Tim Hardaway Jr., made an impact beyond the arc, as well as off the dribble at the rim. Hardaway dropped 10 of his 15 points in the second quarter.
Before the starters returned, the Grizzlies bench unit led by Tyus Jones played extremely well. Jones, John Konchar, Brandon Clarke, and Killian Tillie played well, defending the floor with efficiency. When the starters returned for Memphis, the Mavericks led by five, but the Grizzlies closed the second quarter strong, and led 60-57 at the half in Memphis.
A quarter that the Grizzlies have struggled with lately would be the quarter where the Grizzlies would fully flourish on Tuesday night. Grizzlies forward Kyle Anderson played a solid third quarter on both ends of the floor, and triggering a Grizzlies run that would force the Mavericks to make a change.
Dallas brought in Boban Marjanovic to muddy up the paint, but Memphis continued their onslaught off of defensive stops, and pushing tempo. The Grizzlies would lead 98-82 after three quarters in Memphis.
Dillon Brooks played phenomenal defense on Luka Doncic throughout tonight’s contest, and in the fourth quarter, Brooks decided to put the game to bed.
The Grizzlies would send the Mavericks packing with a huge fourth quarter. Memphis would take down Dallas 133-104 on Tuesday night at FedExForum.
