Riding high off of a successful pool play showing on Friday night, Grizz Gaming had their sights on making more franchise history. A quarterfinals matchup against T-Wolves Gaming to lock in $70K, and a spot in the Semifinals on Sunday night, was the goal. Were the Grizz ready for primetime?

Game One:

The first half was a tale of two sides of the floor for both the Grizz and Wolves. The first quarter ended with a 13-12 score, as the Grizz held the lead. Flash ahead to the second quarter, and both teams scored over 20 points in the second quarter alone. Vandi scored nine of the Grizz 23 second quarter points as the Grizz and Wolvers headed into the half tied at 36 all.

The third quarter was the one where the Grizz didn’t make things happen. Getting outscored 23-14 in the second quarter was something that no one expected from the Grizz. T-Wolves Gaming led Memphis 59-50 heading to the fourth quarter. The Grizz couldn’t recover in the fourth quarter, as the Wolves continued their offensive onslaught. Outscoring Memphis 22-13 in the fourth, they handed Grizz Gaming a bitter game one loss.

Game Two:

Grizz Gaming would take any kind of momentum heading into game two. Really, the Grizz needed to create their own momentum following a bad third quarter showing in game one. The Grizzlies just couldn’t get anything going in game two. A slow start from the Grizz in the first quarter trailing 18-13. Then, getting outscored once again in the second quarter 19-15 led to the Grizz down 37-28 heading into a do or die second half.

The energy just wasn’t there from this group on Saturday night. Vandi was scoring, but tempo was controlled by T-Wolves gaming who played phenomenal on Saturday night on both ends of the floor. The second quarter was where T-Wolves gaming put this one away. Outscoring Memphis 27-18 in the third, and then wrapping it up by a final score of 83-69. Grizz Gaming’s tip-off tournament run was over.

Grizz Gaming tips off their 2021 regular season on Friday May 28th as they’ll take on Heat Check Gaming.
